DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Women's portraits painted by Roman Zakrzewski are characterized by lyricism. In the painting on display, the artist has depicted a woman frozen in a mannerist, graceful pose. The dark, intense colors of the clothing and the interior surrounding the figure are contrasted with the woman's soft, warm complexion and the bright hills and blue sky in the background.
Interestingly, in paintings by Roman Zakrzewski, the depicted rooms are usually empty, but in the case of this work the artist showed a table next to the figure, on which there is a small white teapot, which is an eye-catching color accent. The enrichment of the representation with this thoughtful detail influenced the excellent balance of the composition.
"Portrait of a Woman with a Teapot" perfectly illustrates Roman Zakrzewski's inspiration by the paintings of the old Renaissance masters. The references are noticeable, among other things, in the opening of the composition through a window, behind which stretches a vast landscape, as well as the presence of draperies covering part of the picture field.
