DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Paintings by Mieczyslaw Krzyzak not infrequently deal with battle themes, formally they are characterized by dynamism and attention to detail.
The large-format work on display depicts a scene from Henryk Sienkiewicz's "The Deluge," in which Jan Kazimierz's royal retinue, passing through a ravine, encounters a troop of Swedish soldiers. The scene shows Kmicic with the Kiemlicz family and the highlanders coming to their relief, who strike together against the Swedes.
An element inseparable from Mieczyslaw Krzyzak's work are horses, which also play an important role here. It's worth noting that in the offered composition the artist proved his knowledge of the principle which painters have followed for centuries - he showed the most important figures, which we can treat as leaders, riding white horses - this is visible both in the case of King Jan Kazimierz himself (on the right) and Andrzej Kmicic, placed in the central part of the picture field.
