Work description:
Władysław Hasior is known for his sculptures and assemblages, which have become part of the "textbook" canon of Polish art of the second half of the 20th century. In his works, he used ready-made objects, so-called worn-out props of everyday life, composing them anew and thus giving them symbolic meanings.
In the work on display, the artist used the head of a doll, which belonged to one of his most beloved elements and signified a being unaware of fate. In this case, it was placed on a piece of animal fur - another recurring element in Wladyslaw Hasior's assemblages, symbolizing animalism and strength. The braided hair, again, is a sign of something alive or that which was once alive*. The artist blended these elements together, creating the winged head of an angel and duplicating the ornamental motif from the frame enclosing the whole from below. The title glitter was literally conveyed through the element of a gold stylish frame with a cartouche form and a blue fabric pretending to be shiny silk.
The artist, in works like the one offered, authoritatively titled "The radiance of an angel," using scraps of objects taken from everyday life, created sculptural compositions that were extremely complex in content, breaking the traditional understanding of what art is and still evoking many strong, often extreme emotions among viewers.
